Long Winded Instructions

"You mean, 'gimlet', right?"
Nope. We purposefully got it wrong 'cause we're cocktail rebels. Impressed?
"No, confused."
Fair enough.

This is one of the first recipes that we developed in our kitchen. We started with a regular gimlet recipe, but it wasn’t quite right. We messed with the ratios until we landed on perfection. Although, we found that the strength of the lime juice flavor varies from lime to lime; so it might be safer to go easy on the lime and include a lime wedge garnish so your drinker can adjust to their taste. Done right, this cocktail is a balance of sweet, sophisticated, and refreshing.

Start with your rosemary simple syrup. That is really the key to this cocktail. Everything else supports and augments the rosemary and sugar. Also the gin is needed to get you buzzed. Add the gin, simple syrup, and lime juice to a shaker. Throw some ice in there. Coldliness is next to godliness. Shake it with vigor, much like you would a Polaroid picture.

Now strain into a glass. We do recommend a glass here, though you could strain into a number of other vessels. A plastic bag would work, for example, but is more difficult to drink from. A drinking glass is the culturally accepted container for this sort of thing. A tall martini glass is our favorite presentation for this drink. Put a nice big ice cube or ball in the glass and pour your concoction right on in. Garnish with a fresh sprig of rosemary to really drive the rosemary-ishness home.

Serve to a guest, or yourself, and enjoy with satisfaction the look of delight on their face. If you are the one drinking it, you’ll need to look into a mirror.

Cheers!
