Long Winded Instructions

Sometimes you’re in the mood for a classic. Sometimes you want something that, maybe, hasn’t evolved too much. Something simple. Something reliable. Something that staves off scurvy.

Sometimes you’re looking for a Whiskey Sour. And sometimes, you already have the ingredients you need so you can follow the instructions below and be done with it.

Let’s get to it. Start with a nice shaker. Put some whiskey or bourbon in there. Choose your favorite one. Why not? Go ahead and treat yourself. You got it in there? I’ll wait until you’re ready… ok.

Well you’re already done 1/3 of the recipe. How do you feel? Ready to continue to the next step. Very well. Don’t rush it now.

Grab that lemon. You’re gonna juice that sucker. Juice just enough juice from the lemon to match the amount that is listed up there in the ingredients section. It’s not very much if you’re just doing one drink. Also, feel free to adjust the amount if you like your drink lemonier, or less lemony. Hey, you’re making this drink and, presumable, you’re going to drink it. So, you hold all the cards here. You do it your way.

Let’s check in on our progress again. About 2/3 of the way done. Pretty good! Maybe more like half way if you include the garnish step. Yeah I guess we should include that. Ok you’re half way done. I apologize for misleading you about how far along your are. But don’t worry these steps go quickly.

You got your simple syrup ready? If you don’t, not to worry. You can make some real quick by dissolving 1 part sugar into 1 part water. It’s simple! Thus the name. You can get more detail about this process by clicking one of the simple syrup links, you lucky blog reader, you. Once you have your syrup, pour the appropriate amount (according to the ingredients section) into your shaker.

Oooh speaking of your shaker, you’ll also need to shake this with ice. That could easily be considered an additional step (in addition to the 3 ingredients and garnish). So unfortunately again I have to move the goal post on you. You’re not 3/4 done at this point, but rather 3/5 done. Again, I offer my sympathies, and apologies, and hope you can forgive. But even if you do, I can’t imagine you’d forget. I really screwed this thing up.

Shake your drink with ice. Ok now that’s done. 4/5 of the way complete! That’s not bad.

Well let’s not delay any further. We are so close to the finish line! One final step. Strain the drink out of your shaker into your rocks glass. Oh, also, put a nice fancy ice cube in your presentation glass. Do that first.

Oh no… the adding fancy ice to the rocks glass and then straining the drink steps are additional steps I didn’t think of. That means, assuming you’ve already completed those steps, you’re now 6/7 of the way done. This is truly embarrassing.

Ok the final step! Add an orange slice and maraschino cherry as garnish. 7 steps completed out of 7 steps total! At long last you have completed your drink. Now all you have to do is enjoy it.

Oooh I just thought of 32 additional steps. Ahhh what the heck. You can skip those.
